A poem for world poetry day.A poem for World Poetry Day today.

The poem is written by Denis Hearn to whom we are very thankful for contacting the page to kindly share his wonderful poetry with us.

by Denis Hearn 2014

Evening turns to early end of day
As late arrived we board the trusty bawd.
With engine pumping we venture out
Past disappearing land and into boiling sea.

Ahead the stinging rain.
Behind the land departing from our sight.
We forge on rolling in the green and feathered main.
The hopeful light of Cailin Ban steams off our starboard side.

We disappear and re appear above the whitened waves.
And plough on darkly into the boiling rage,
Of endless green water and darkening light.
Our skipper’s words spread calm amongst the strain.

As mountainous seas go rolling by.
We heave and turn with every trough.
Rain, harder now, with gunnels filling up,
She ploughs onward through disappearing wake.

Words blasted into the storm.
Wind and rain press hardened cheeks.
As onward toward the westward light
We push the seasoned wooden hull.

A flash and there it is.
An angel in the streaming rain.
Our skipper points her rusty bow
To safety and the quieting main.
